The Eagles and Chiefs faced off on Sunday in their second Super Bowl matchup in three years. The Chiefs were looking to make super bowl history being the first team to win three straight Super Bowls. The Chiefs were favored going into the game, but it was over before Kendrick and SZA took the stage.
The game started off with a opening drive controversial offensive pass interference call against AJ Brown giving the ball to Patrick Mahomes. The Chiefs’ offense had no spark giving the ball back to Jalen Hurts. The Eagles had a great drive down the field, two big chuck plays to Dallas Goddert and a throw down the sideline to Jahan Dotson that put the Eagles at the one yard line. The Eagles do the iconic tush push to open up the game 7-0. The remainder of the first quarter was quiet with no rhythm from either team offensively, and no run game from either team. Hurts threw an interception early in the second. The Chiefs then gave the ball back to the Eagles with Jake Elliott hitting a field goal putting the Eagles up 10-0. The spark of the game came from the rookie birthday boy Cooper DeJean. DeJean picked off Mahomes and ran it back for a touchdown, blowing the game open for the Eagles. Brown scored with a 1:30 left in the half putting the Eagles up 24-0 at halftime.
The Eagles defense was key in this game having six sacks, two and a half from Josh Sweat. The Eagles did not take their foot off the pedal in the second half. The Eagles went up 34-0 with a Jake Elliot field goal, and a 46 yard touchdown pass to Devonte Smith. The chiefs ended the game with two Xavier Worthy touchdowns and a Deandre Hopkins touchdown in the fourth. The Eagles ended with a handful of field goals to win 40-22 winning their second Super Bowl in franchise history in seven years.
Eagles general manager Howie Rosman got the Eagles over the hump by adding key players in free agency and the draft. He added running back Saquon Barkley, linebacker Zach Baun, safety CJ Gardener Johnson, linebacker Bryce Huff, linebacker Oren Burks, and backup quarterback Kenny Pickett this offseason in free agency. In the past two drafts the Eagles have drafted Jalen Carter, Nolan Smith, Kellee Ringo, Quinyon Mitchell, and Cooper Dejean. These additions were key to the Eagles success showing how Howie Rosmans aggressive general manger style has turned out a success.
For the chiefs they look to add protection this offseason on the offensive line for Patrick Mahomes. The Chiefs added Xavier Worthy in this year’s draft who had a great rookie season and had two touchdowns in the Super Bowl, but it is clear especially after this game that Mahomes needs offensive weapons to help him win his fourth Super Bowl. Travis Kelce has some thinking to do if he will hang up the cleats after this season, if so this would add more challenges to the Chiefs after losing their number one weapon.
