On Tuesday May 13, Wilson faced off against Twin Valley in the Berks County Lacrosse county final. It was a game to remember.
The Bulldogs’ path to the final saw them face off at home in the county semifinal against Exeter. They won dominantly 17-6, highlighted by sophomore Becket Redner scoring his 100th high school goal.
Twin Valley beat Berks Catholic on the previous Thursday night, setting up the highly anticipated rematch between the Raiders and the Bulldogs. These two teams faced off on April 9, and Twin Valley won in a defensive-heavy game, 3-2.
The county final started hot for Wilson, starting 4-0, showcasing their offense that had been lacking in the regular season against Twin Valley. The rain was pouring at Alvernia, playing a factor early in the game. Twin Valley answered right back, closing the gap towards the end of the half with Colin Gallagher scoring three straight goals. Cole Kaufmann scored the last goal of the half, giving the Bulldogs the 6-4 lead going into halftime.
The third quarter was an offensive quarter from both teams, with the scoring starting from Trey Marcinko. This gave the Bulldogs a 7-4 lead. The quarter ended with sophomore Ian Miller scoring for Wilson and Twin Valleys’ Drew Engle scoring, making it a 10-7 lead going into the final quarter.
Wilson took control of the game in the fourth quarter, scoring 4 goals. Junior FOGO Alex Crouse went 20/26 on faceoffs, controlling the possession throughout the game for the Bulldogs. Junior Luke Azzanesi and senior Cole Kaufmann led the team in scoring with 3 goals each.
