Welcome back, Upper-East Siders,
19 years after the original premiere of the beloved drama, “Gossip Girl”, your favorite Queen B, Blair Waldorf, will be making a comeback. Here is all we know about the long-awaited sequel:
Despite many people knowing “Gossip Girl” as a TV show, this storyline, which follows fictional socialites in Manhattan, originally began as a book series by author Cecily von Ziegesar. After the book series debuted in 2002, it was clear that the captivating storyline would be taken to television.
On Sept. 17, 2007, the show’s pilot aired and continued for five years and 121 episodes. The show, consisting of six seasons, starring Blake Lively, Leighton Meester, Ed Westwick, Chance Crawford and Penn Badgley, won 18 Teen Choice Awards and remains relevant to audiences til this day. After the finale aired on Dec. 17, 2012, fans haven’t received much word on a reboot or sequel, until now.
On Feb. 4th, it was announced that a sequel novel titled “Blair” would reach audiences sometime in 2027. This spinoff would follow Blair Waldorf, portrayed by Leighton Meester in the original series, 20 years after the finale. B will be returning in her 40s, and the audience will observe her social climb as she reclaims her status.
No information is currently available regarding a TV adaptation of the standalone novel, and Leighton Meester has not given a definitive answer as to whether or not she would like to resume her role as Queen of Constance. Many details are still being kept top secret, as reported; however, as said by Gossip Girl herself, “Nothing stays hidden for long. And you often find, what you least expect is right in front of you. Waiting to change everything forever.”
xoxo,
