Formula 1 (F1) racing, the pinnacle of international motorsport, brings together the world’s top drivers competing in high-speed cars on circuits around the globe. Combining strategy, skill, and cutting-edge engineering, the sport features 10 teams, each with two drivers. These teams—known as constructors—are responsible for building their own cars within the series’ strict regulations. Throughout the season, drivers fight for the prestigious F1 Drivers’ Championship, while teams battle for the Constructors’ Championship and the associated prize money, determined by their standings at the end of the season. Each race, known as a Grand Prix, takes place at iconic venues across the world.
The 2024 season was marked by dramatic driver changes, first-time race winners, team reshuffles, and fierce competition for small but crucial championship points. All this culminated in the season’s final race, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, held on December 8th. The Yas Marina Circuit, famous for its stunning marina backdrop and dramatic twists through sand dunes, features a challenging combination of long straights and tight corners. While Max Verstappen, driving for Red Bull, had already secured the Drivers’ Championship with 437 points, the real drama unfolded in the race for the Constructors’ Championship.
McLaren’s Lando Norris, starting from pole position, dominated the race from start to finish. Despite battles with the Ferrari cars, with Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc finishing second and third respectively, Norris remained at the front. His victory clinched McLaren the title for the Constructors’ Championship.
As the 2024 season draws to a close, the F1 world prepares for some significant changes. Several teams will undergo driver changes, the most notable transfer being seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton’s switch from Mercedes to Ferrari. New engine and constructor regulations will also come into play. It all starts again this February, the beginning of the 2025 season, when we once again ask the ultimate question: who will be the world’s motorsport champion?
