This is the 79th season of Wilson football, and the team is currently on pace to have its’ 47th winning season. The team is coming up on 600 wins this year.
This year, the Bulldogs started off the season by facing Roman Catholic and Central Dauphin. Both games resulted in tough losses, with the scores being 49-14 and 36-35. After overcoming adversity in the beginning of the season that included multiple injured seniors and key players, the team needed different players to step up and lead the way for both sides of the ball.
Despite the absence of key players, the Bulldogs have been able to establish their dominance in back to back wins against Cheltanham and Reading, with the scores of 49-26 and 38-14 respectively. After being able to break even, the fifth game of the year against undefeated Cedar Crest proved to be another challenge for the Bulldogs to overcome. Luckily, the Bulldogs were able to hold off the Falcons by sustaining and maintaining a lead for the majority of the game, resulting in a win. Throughout the suspense of it all, the players kept their composure, and capitalized on key moments during the game.
When asked about adversity, starting quarterback Tommy Hunsicker said, “This season has been going pretty well. We’re focused on improving everyday, and moving towards where we want to be at the end of the season, but we all feel that we could still be better.”
This is what the bulldogs would exactly do going on to win the next 3 against; Reading, Hempfield, and Penn Manor. This week the Bulldogs will go on to face the number two team in the state Manheim Township. “Believing that being that guy that’s been with you(team) pretty much everyday from 9-12th, chasing all the same goals and by doing everything in your power to be ready and go and having that attitude instilled into us, it helped everyone that had to step up and be ready.” Palm stated.
