As school starts back up, one thing the Wilson community can look forward to is fall sports. From football to tennis, there is no shortage of sporting events that Wilson students can attend. Let’s see what the season is looking like for the Bulldogs:
Football:
Wilson football is now entering their 2024-2025 season. Last year they ranked 2nd in their conference with a 7-4 record. They currently has a record of 3-1 and are undefeated in their conference. The Bulldogs are led by quarterback Madyx Gruber and head coach Doug Dahms. When asked about Wilson Football’s core values, Coach Dahms stated,“work hard, treat everyone with respect and never quit.” He is hopeful that following these values will lead them to their ultimate goal that is “for every player to reach for his maximum potential both on and off the field.” This is Coach Dahms’ 49th year of coaching. Some big games to attend include: Pink Out (Homecoming- 10/4), Green Out (10/18), and don’t forget about the White Out game at Mifflin (9/27).
Soccer:
Girl’s and Boy’s soccer has started up as well. Currently our girl’s soccer team is ranked 3rd in the conference with a record of 8-2-1. Previously, they finished the 2023-2024 regular season ranked 1st in the county with a county record of 5-1. Go out and support the Bulldogs as they continue the season with their final game being October 9. The Wilson Girl’s Soccer team is led by head coach Tim Fick. Similarly, Wilson Boy’s Soccer is having a decent season with a conference record of 1-0-1 and overall record of 6-3-2. Their final game will take place on October 8 against Muhlenberg at home. When asked about the season goals, head coach Massimo Grande stated, “Our main goal for the season is to not worry about the expectations, but to focus on what we can control. This includes our work rate on the field, communication and winning every 50/50 ball.” He then continued by saying, “The two core values that have allowed us to be successful are accountability and teamwork. This year’s senior class has done a great job.” They hope to finish the season first in the division and have home field advantage in the playoffs. This is Coach Grande’s 13th year coaching the Boy’s Soccer Team
Girl’s Volleyball:
Wilson volleyball’s head coach Denny Werner is extremely hopeful for the Bulldogs to go far this season. This is his 31st year coaching. When asked about the values of the team he stated, “Be on time, Trust and Respect your teammates, Go Hard or Go Home.” He also mentioned that he is hopeful the young team will continue to improve day by day. Along with that, their ultimate goal for the season is to win the County Championships again and qualify for the state playoffs. Their final home game will be October 8 against Governor Mifflin.
Wilson Field Hockey:
Wilson field hockey is hoping for another successful season. Last year the Bulldogs were county runners up and made it to the second round of district championships. The main theme for this season is “stronger together.” The Bulldogs are looking forward to postseason and working hard in order to make it to counties, districts and hopefully states. Through hard work and determination, the girls are looking forward to finding success. Wilson Field Hockey’s mission statement is: “Developing women of character through the sport of field hockey.” This team is led by head coach Kim Underwood.
Girl’s Tennis:
Finally, our girl’s tennis team has the ultimate goal of “Build a strong team and for all of the girls to improve and play their best tennis at the end of the season,” Coach Gensemer states. This is head coach Todd Gensemer’s second year coaching. A very powerful remark he made was: “Staying positive and communication seems to be the defining values that bring the team together. The success takes care of itself when everyone is on the same page.” This season has been amazing for the girls. Coach states, “We are entering the county playoff for the first time in six years as the #1 seed in Class 3A. We are hoping for a chance to compete for a county championship, compete in the district playoff and possibly earn a state bid.”
