Gypsy Rose Blanchard: From Stuck Behind Bars To Freedom

Released from prison in Dec. 2023, Gypsy Rose Blanchard now has plans for a spa day, NFL game and a new book. Gypsy was in prison because she planned her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard’s, murder. Gypsy Rose Blanchard’s mother had a mental disorder, Munchhausen Syndrome by Proxy. She would lie about Gypsy’s health. Due to Dee Dee’s illness, Gypsy was prescribed a lot of medications and had to sleep using a breathing machine. Gypsy had a feeding tube for many years and Dee Dee even went as far to say Gypsy had leukemia. Gypsy also went through multiple surgeries, including procedures on her eyes and removal of her salivary glands. When Gypsy’s teeth rotted, they were pulled out. Gypsy endured years of abuse. Dee Dee would even squeeze Gypsy’s hand during interviews when she wanted Gypsy to stop talking. Gypsy also said she had more freedom in prison than she did in the outside world.

The truth finally came out when Dee Dee was murdered in 2015 by Gypsy’s boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn. After pleading guilty to second-degree murder in 2016, Gypsy Rose was sentenced to 10 years in prison, but only served eight. Nicholas Godejohn received a life sentence. Gypsy was eventually released from prison on Dec. 28 at 3:30 a.m.

As of now, Gypsy lives with her husband in Louisiana. Her husband, Ryan Anderson, picked her up from the Chillicothe Restorative Center in Missouri in December of 2023. Gypsy says she’s enjoying her new freedom. In several of her posts on Instagram and TikTok, she includes Ryan, and both of the accounts are experiencing daily growth. Gypsy has ten million followers on TikTok.

The story of Gypsy Rose has been the subject of numerous documentaries, podcasts and articles about the complexities of her life. In 2024, filmmakers are continuing to investigate the various aspects of this case, delving into the complexities of the relationship between the mother and daughter and the effects of prolonged abuse on the psyche of the victim. The story of Gypsy Rose continues to captivate and debate.

Although Gypsy Rose is still distanced from many of her family members, there are reports of reunification. Some of her family members have spoken out in favor of her release and stressed the importance of understanding the abuse she suffered and the possibility of recovery. Still, the family dynamics in Blanchard County remain complicated and strained.

While Gypsy is glad to be out of the situation, she isn’t happy that her mother is dead.
